Best Joint Supplements for Dogs in the UK, Compared
Last updated: 31 October 2026
Some links on this page are affiliate links. We earn commission on Your Pet Nutrition products (Canine Prime and Flexi Protect) at no extra cost to you, and it hasn’t changed how we rank them. This guide is general information and isn’t a substitute for advice from your vet.
Joint supplements cost anything from under 10p to £4 a day, and most brands don’t make it easy to compare them. We compared 8 that are widely sold in the UK on what they cost for your dog’s weight, how much of each ingredient they contain, and what the research says those ingredients do.
How we compared them: we haven’t tested these on our own dogs. We used each brand’s published feeding guide, ingredient amounts and prices, checked on 31 October 2026, and published veterinary research. No brand paid to be included.
Our picks
Best for most dogs: YuMOVE Joint Support for Adult Dogs
Published amounts of green-lipped mussel and glucosamine, easy to buy, and good value on its bulk subscription. From £0.48 a day for a 17kg dog.
Best evidence: Antinol Joint Care Pro
The only product here with an independent published trial in dogs with arthritis. From £0.48 a day for a 17kg dog.
Best budget vet brand: Seraquin for dogs
Cheapest per day of the vet brands, with high published doses, though its main ingredients have the weakest evidence. From £0.33 a day for a 17kg dog.
If your dog won’t take tablets: Pet Gently Joint Care Dog Chews
A soft chew with published amounts of green-lipped mussel, glucosamine and chondroitin. From £0.72 a day for a 17kg dog.
Best all-in-one: Canine Prime
If you want joints, digestion and coat covered in one daily scoop. It doesn’t publish its joint ingredient amounts, so if joints are your main concern, a dedicated supplement is better value. From £1.40 a day for a 17kg dog. See Canine Prime vs YuMOVE.
What will it cost for your dog?
Bigger dogs need more tablets or chews, so the cheapest product for a terrier isn’t always the cheapest for a Labrador. Enter your dog’s weight to see the daily cost of each one.

What’s in them
Three of the eight don’t publish how much of each ingredient they contain, so you can’t tell whether a dose is meaningful. Here’s what a 17kg dog gets each day from the rest.
| Per day, 17kg dog | Dose | Green-lipped mussel | Glucosamine | Chondroitin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| YuMOVE Joint Support for Adult Dogs | 2 tablets | 300mg | 500mg | Not published |
| Antinol Joint Care Pro | 1 capsule | 50mg as concentrated oil | None | None |
| Seraquin for dogs | 1 tablet | Not published | 500mg | 380mg |

| Joint Aid for Dogs | 5g | None | 120mg | None |
| Canine Prime | 1½ scoops | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Antinol uses a concentrated oil extracted from green-lipped mussels, so its 50mg isn’t comparable with the mussel powder in the others. YuMOVE’s figure is its ActivEase blend of green-lipped mussel and hoki fish oil.
What the evidence says
Joint supplements aren’t regulated like medicines, and the research behind their ingredients varies a lot. A 2022 review and meta-analysis of the studies on diets and supplements for arthritis in dogs and cats is the most thorough summary so far.
- Omega-3 has the best evidence. Fish oil (EPA and DHA) and green-lipped mussel came out best. Canine Arthritis Management, a UK vet-led group, says green-lipped mussel needs a high dose and 2 to 3 months to work.
- Glucosamine and chondroitin have the weakest. The review found they didn’t relieve pain, and said they should no longer be recommended for pain relief, even though they’re in most joint supplements.
- Turmeric is unproven. The one controlled study in dogs found no measurable effect.
So when comparing products, look for green-lipped mussel or omega-3 with a published dose, rather than the longest ingredient list. None of the products here contains enough omega-3 to match the amounts used in fish oil studies. If your vet recommends omega-3, a dedicated fish oil such as a Scottish salmon oil (affiliate link) may be the simplest way to get it.
Supplements don’t replace a vet. If your dog is limping, stiff after rest or slowing down on walks, see your vet. Keeping your dog slim, regular gentle exercise and pain relief where needed make more difference than any supplement.
The 8 joint supplements
YuMOVE Joint Support for Adult Dogs
Lintbells · Tablets · £0.48 to £0.95 a day for a 17kg dog
The UK’s best-known joint supplement, and our pick for most dogs. Each tablet lists its doses: 150mg of green-lipped mussel and hoki oil (sold as ActivEase), 250mg of glucosamine and a small amount of hyaluronic acid.
- Doses are published, so you know what your dog gets
- Sold online, in supermarkets and in pet shops
- Half the price per tablet, or less, on the 300-tablet subscription
- Double dose for the first month, which doubles the cost
- The Royal Veterinary College study it cites was sponsored by Lintbells, and we could not find it published
- Glucosamine has weak evidence (see below)
- Loading dose:
- Double dose for the first month
- Guarantee:
- Money back if you see no difference in 6 weeks
- Where to buy:

- Cites a Royal Veterinary College study it sponsored; we could not find the published paper
Antinol Joint Care Pro
Vetz Petz · Soft-gel capsules · £0.48 to £0.72 a day for a 17kg dog
A concentrated oil extracted from green-lipped mussels (PCSO-524), in a small soft-gel capsule. In a 24-week trial of 66 dogs with arthritis, published in the Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine in 2015, dogs given PCSO-524 improved in lameness, weight-bearing and gait.
- The best independent evidence of any product here
- One small capsule a day for dogs up to 20kg
- Sold through vets as well as online
- Twice the cost for dogs over 20kg, who need two capsules
- Only 15mg of EPA and DHA a capsule, so it doesn’t replace a fish oil if your vet recommends omega-3
- No glucosamine, which matters less than you might think
- Loading dose:
- Double dose for the first 2 weeks
- Guarantee:
- 60-day money back on starter packs
- Where to buy:

- Talk to your vet first if your dog is already stiff or limping, so any pain is treated.
- Look for published doses. If a brand won’t say how much is in it, you can’t compare it.
- Prioritise green-lipped mussel or omega-3, which have the best evidence.
- Work out the cost for your dog’s weight, including any loading dose, using the calculator above.
- Pick a format your dog will take every day: a supplement only works if it gets eaten.
- Give it 6 to 12 weeks, note how your dog moves before you start, and use the money-back guarantee if there’s no difference.
Frequently asked questions
Do joint supplements for dogs work?
Some do, for some dogs. The strongest evidence is for omega-3 fatty acids, including green-lipped mussel. A 2022 review of the research found glucosamine and chondroitin did not relieve pain and said they should no longer be recommended for pain relief. Supplements work best alongside weight control, regular exercise and any pain relief your vet prescribes, not instead of them.
What is the best joint supplement for dogs in the UK?
For most dogs we’d choose YuMOVE Joint Support: its doses are published, it contains green-lipped mussel, and it costs about £0.48 a day for a 17kg dog on its bulk subscription. Antinol has the best independent evidence. Seraquin is the cheapest vet brand. Use the calculator above to compare costs for your dog’s weight.
How long do joint supplements take to work?
Give any joint supplement at least 6 weeks, and green-lipped mussel 2 to 3 months, before deciding whether it helps. Keep a note of how your dog moves now, for example how easily they get up or manage the stairs, so you’re not relying on memory.
Can I give a joint supplement with Metacam, Librela or other arthritis medicine?
Joint supplements are generally considered safe to give alongside prescribed pain relief, and many vets recommend both. Tell your vet which supplement you’re using, especially if your dog has a health condition, a shellfish allergy or takes other medicine.
Is there a cheaper alternative to YuMOVE?
Seraquin and Joint Aid for Dogs both cost less per day, but they contain different ingredients and no green-lipped mussel. YuMOVE itself is much cheaper per tablet on its 300-tablet subscription than on a single pack, so that’s worth checking first.
Is Canine Prime good for joints?
Canine Prime contains glucosamine, chondroitin and green-lipped mussel, but it’s an all-in-one supplement and doesn’t publish how much of each it contains. If joints are your main concern, a dedicated joint supplement is better value. See our Canine Prime vs YuMOVE comparison.
