The short answer

They do different jobs. YuMOVE is a dedicated joint supplement with published doses. Canine Prime is an all-in-one powder covering digestion, coat, energy and joints, but it doesn’t say how much of each ingredient it contains.

Choose YuMOVE if

  • Joints are your main concern
  • You want to know the dose your dog gets
  • You want the lower cost: roughly a quarter to two fifths of Canine Prime’s price per day

Choose Canine Prime if

  • You want one general daily supplement rather than one for joints
  • Your dog takes powder on food more easily than tablets
  • You’ll buy on a multi-jar plan, which cuts the cost by 40%

Prices from yumove.co.uk and yourpetnutrition.com, checked 31 October 2026. The lower figure is the cheapest way to buy (YuMOVE’s 300-tablet subscription; Canine Prime’s 6-jar subscription), the higher is a single pack.

Cost by dog size

YuMOVE is cheaper per day for every size of dog. The gap is biggest for small dogs, who need only one tablet, and on single packs.

YuMOVE Joint Support£0.24 to £0.621 tablet a day£0.48 to £0.952 tablets a day£0.48 to £0.952 tablets a day

YuMOVE’s double dose in the first month adds to its cost at the start, but it’s still cheaper than Canine Prime over the first month for all three sizes on the cheapest way to buy. Compare 6 other joint supplements for your dog’s weight in our joint supplement calculator.

What’s in each

YuMOVE lists its amounts on every tablet: 150mg of ActivEase (green-lipped mussel and hoki fish oil), 250mg of glucosamine and 1.4mg of hyaluronic acid, with vitamins C and E and manganese. Green-lipped mussel is one of the joint ingredients with the best evidence; glucosamine has much weaker evidence.

Canine Prime has about 40 ingredients, including probiotics, digestive enzymes, 23 vitamins and minerals, mushrooms and superfoods, along with green-lipped mussel, glucosamine and chondroitin. Only the probiotic count (2 billion CFU a scoop) is published. With that many ingredients in one scoop, the joint ingredients are likely to be at lower doses than in a dedicated product, but there’s no way to check. See our full Canine Prime review.

Alternatives to both

  • Best evidence for joints: Antinol Joint Care Pro, a green-lipped mussel oil with an independent trial in dogs with arthritis.
  • Cheaper than YuMOVE: Seraquin (a vet brand) or Joint Aid for Dogs, though neither contains green-lipped mussel.
  • A joint chew from the makers of Canine Prime: Flexi Protect, though it’s expensive for medium and large dogs and doesn’t publish its doses.

Frequently asked questions

Is Canine Prime better than YuMOVE?

Not for joints. YuMOVE is a dedicated joint supplement that publishes its doses of green-lipped mussel and glucosamine, and it costs less per day for every size of dog. Canine Prime is an all-in-one supplement that also covers digestion, coat and energy, so it suits owners who want one general daily add-on.

Can I give my dog Canine Prime and YuMOVE together?

Both contain glucosamine and green-lipped mussel, so you would be paying twice for some of the same ingredients. We’re not aware of a reason they can’t be given together, but check with your vet first, especially if your dog has a health condition, a shellfish allergy or takes other medicine.

What is a cheaper alternative to YuMOVE?

Seraquin and Joint Aid for Dogs both cost less per day, though neither contains green-lipped mussel. Before switching, check YuMOVE’s 300-tablet subscription: it brings the price per tablet down to under half that of the single 30-tablet pack.

What is a good alternative to Canine Prime in the UK?

It depends what you want it for. For joints, a dedicated supplement such as YuMOVE or Antinol is better value. For digestion, a gut-health powder is more targeted. For skin and coat, an omega-3 fish oil is a simple, cheaper option.

Which is better for an older dog with stiff joints?

YuMOVE, or another dedicated joint supplement, along with a check-up with your vet. Stiffness in an older dog is often arthritis, which may need pain relief as well as a supplement. See our guide to the best joint supplements for dogs for the options with the best evidence.
